Semi/Permanent make-up (PMU or SPMU) and also known as micropigmentation or permanent cosmetics is a cosmetic tattoo procedure to create long-lasting eyeliner, lipliner or eyebrow definition.
A low frequency, specialist designed facial PMU tattoo machine is used to gently insert pigment into the treatment area using very fine needles.
After a consultation and health risk assessment, a pre-treatment anaesthetic cream is applied to the area for 20-30 minutes.
During the treatment a second anesthetic is applied throughout to ensure maximum comfort for clients.
After the initial treatment a second appointment (top up) between 4-10 weeks will be needed to touch up any uneven parts of the area and to achieve the desired result.
Some treatments may require a third top up depending on the healing of the clients skin.
PMU Eyeliner is a 3 stage process and will require a third top up.
After your treatment you will be given appropriate after care information along with an after care ointment to apply during your healing period.
Your healing period will last around 1-2 weeks depending on the treatment that has been carried out and the area may feel itchy or dry while it is healing.
Initially, the colour may appear very dark or intense, at around 1-2 weeks post treatment the area will lighten and soften. It will take around four weeks for the colour to fade to its permanent shade.
The surrounding area may be red and a little swollen immediately after treatment and (depending on the procedure) for a few days afterwards. You are advised to avoid chlorinated water (such as swimming pools) and exposure to sunlight until it has fully healed.
It can take about two weeks to fully heal, after which time you will be able to carry out your usual routine and use facial products.
